Back to your book.
How do I start a reading session?
Add a book by scanning its ISBN barcode or entering the details manually. Set your reading goal, then tap a book on Home to start its timer. You can keep up to three books in progress.
What happens if I leave the app?
Reading time pauses and a five-minute grace period begins. Return before it expires to resume. If notifications are allowed, a reminder is scheduled after three minutes away. If the grace period expires before your session goal is met, that session does not count. If you have already met the goal, the session ends.
Can I lock my phone while reading?
Currently, locking your phone also starts the five-minute grace period. Keep PageTock open during your session; the timer keeps the screen awake. Use the Dim screen button on the timer for a less distracting screen while you read. Dimming the screen is different from locking your phone. PageTock does not block you from opening other apps.
How do I build my streak?
Complete all the sessions in your daily reading goal to make that day count toward your streak. The Progress screen lets you look back at your reading activity and longest streak.
Can I change my reading goal?
Yes. Open Settings, then Reading Goal, to choose your session length and one, two, or three sessions per day. Goal changes apply to future days.
The barcode scan couldn’t find my book. What can I do?
Book details come from Open Library, and some editions may be missing or incomplete. You can enter the details manually and use your own cover photo instead.
Why didn’t I receive a reminder?
Check that notifications are allowed for PageTock in your iPhone’s Settings. Focus settings and notification-delivery settings can affect when alerts appear. PageTock schedules its reminders locally on your device.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No account is required. Your reading sessions and locally stored progress do not need cloud sync. Looking up book details, loading online covers, opening this website, and sending support email require an internet connection.
Where is my reading data stored?
Your books, streaks, history, and settings are stored locally on your device. PageTock has no account system or cloud-sync service. Device backups may include app data depending on your iPhone and backup settings. See the privacy policy for details.
Can you recover my reading history?
We don’t hold a server copy of your reading history, so support cannot recover it for you. Deleting the app can remove its local data. Recovery through a device backup depends on your backup settings.
Where can I download PageTock?
PageTock is now available for iPhone on the US App Store. Download PageTock on the App Store.
